Project Evaluation
Summer Project Evaluation
For this is summer project I thought it was challenging at that points it's the fact that it's based on the current situation which we are all living in and it's challenging mentally in the sense of being able to complete this project as some of it has been a rollercoaster ride I've had ups and downs of this project I've had highs and I've had low points and it's it's also been challenging in the sense of trying to show you how I can relate to the current situation we are living in which is actually quite depressing and painful as well and I feel like this project because we are living in the moment it is doable and therefore it's relatable so I liked that aspect of this project that we are living in the project it's like we are what we create in this project for me this is sort of how I picture this project and it's quite literally close to home considering the fact that it is based on staying at home by song COVID-19 and what are year 2020 is been really and that's been challenging on its own and because of that it's made this project somewhat challenging but not only is it a Engine one but it's also a fairly easy one to create because it's easy to create work for is easy to make work is easy to create art based on the pandemic it's quite easy to get a research put together by looking at new supports and artist research. This project is good because I do like a challenge and I like finding challenges to get my teeth stuck into too especially when it's related to graphics design and visual communication about a project I know about and currently living in which I do like as well because it's enable me to put my own spin on the current situation and my views creatively and truthfully really just showing what I think in poster designs.
I think the poster designs went well, I think the way I came up with different experiments and design concepts with the poster making, I think I experimented a lot with Colour, blend modes, design concepts and ideas and made some of them inspired by my artist research, which I think is a good added touch to my designs, so I would also say the artist research went well as I found different artists concepts to help me design my series of posters, relating to COVID 19 more for the aesthetic of the artist's work I followed a similar art form. I think some aspects of my animations went well, I think the animation where I sum up COVID 19 went will, because I showed my views on lockdown using simplistic illustrations and my animation where I am saying my views on Lockdown the (5 mins animation) I think the way I put it together went well, it took ages but I managed to get it finished a few days before the deadline and I made the imagery work well with the audio. In the duration of this project, I have learnt alot about aspects of the Adobe suite, how to use the programmes effectively... using illustrator for the imagery, photoshop for photos and editing imagery I designed on illustrator, indesign for the makings of my sample books and of course there is Premiere Pro and After effects, I used for the animation as well as a new programme I recently discovered called Adobe Animate where I also made aspects of my animation. I have also used Adobe Dimensions for some of the 3 dimensional aspects of my artwork and most recently used an adobe programme Called Adobe Spark. So I think learning more about these programmes in my own time was something that went well. Completing my diary entry on Blogger adding up my views of Lockdown. I think that went well too.
There is always room for improvement, I would say Diary, although my entry om Blogger looked good... I didn't do a diary write up day to day saying what I did and how I survived lockdown. The written aspects isn't really a forte of mine and is always going to be an area to improve on- in some aspects I think I have improved for instance writing about artists, thanks to the help of Alex Todd, giving me a couple tasks to help me practice alongside that I think I still have a way to go. I think I could of done better with completing my timeline to the fullest, but it felt relentless and like there is no end as we are still living in these times currently and there isn't sa stopping point and because there's no stopping point it demotivated me and mentally drained me. I would say another improvement is the clemliness of some of the animation and motion graphics work because there was areas on the animations that look cleaner and slicker than other aspects and bits of the animation is quite repetitive as well, which may annoy some people. As well as that I could of improved on doing more artwork based on my questionnaire and by actually interviewing one or two front line workers about their goings throughs of lockdown, but I tried going to my local hospital and they were unfortunately not comfortable with this. Finally I would also add another route of improvement is if I did some experimental work away from the digital format a little more.
I enjoyed many aspects of this project, designing the posters, researching artists, learning about their way of working and their artforms as well as for design ideas, taking part in that Art moves competition, just for the idea of putting my work out there a little and helping me progress and understand the realities of the real world, I also enjoyed self learning, about my paths as a designer and as a person during these drastic times, along with self teaching some aspects of the Adobe suite programmes to help me improve my skill development. I enjoyed making the animations, making the audio and creating motion imagery for my audio along with the one second everyday exercise, that was enjoyable as well. especially when I watched it back and looking at the memories from the day to day lockdown since the summer of 2020, it made me smile watching it back. I also enjoyed doing the soap carving, just because it took me away from the comouter for 5 minutes and was good fun to crate art on soap, just to take a step out of my comfort zone.
The aspects of this project I didn't enjoy was the written aspects of the project, because it brought on stress and anxiety as well as it being a struggle knowing what to write at time to time, some of the planning aspects was a little annoying as I had to keep changing my time plan to suit my summer project. I also found it wildly frustrating to sort out my animation at points where it went wrong, at points where my animation crashed and I had to redo aspects of it some of it was very stressful as segments got deleted also when I tried editing them together. I also didn't enjoy the aspects of watching the news for the evasions of the news being 99.9% of it is clinically depressing, tis enough to drive you mad and the 0.1% of the news is the the weather forecast and one highlighted segment at the end of the programme so we don't go to bed every night fearing the worst. I also didn't enjoy the idea of reading some of the news articles as it just made me rant and rave like a broken recordplayer and drove me insane. the aspects I least enjoyed was the artist blocks... they were just depressing as whenever I had an artist block nothing was on my mind but misery and was just clouded, I just felt like I was mediocre and would never get by in life because there was times I couldn't think straight and I'd spend ages just staring at my computer screen wondering what to do next. Finally there was a time I went to my nearest doctors to try and ask a couple employees for some questions about their views on the virus and how they're comping on the day to day basis to help me with this project but they struggled to understand me as they spoke limiting English and I had to keep repeating myself and I was just lost for words and it hit my confidence further down the cesspit
The tasks I found challenging was for one knowing when to stop creating designs for this project as once I have an idea and I get really engrossed into a mind boggling idea, sometimes I have no will power to stop creating, editing my animation was very challenging with the reasons I mentioned above where aspects of it was deleted and wasn't matching the audio. Some of the research aspects was challenging also (more finding facts and information about COVID 19 and artists was challenging) to know what sort of thing to research was challenging as well. The written aspects was challenging as well, for the reasons of not always knowing what to write and how to write it. Getting over the artist block was a challenging aspect too because it took ages for me to wriggle out of my stages of artist block as well as motivation was bewildering onto of that. Although I have found the entirety of this project challenging and I do like a challenge so in a way it has been a good project to get my teeth stuck into.
I would do this project again yes, because fir one this is Part 1 for year 2's first project and I would like to do a project based on this pandemic and COVID 19 in the future also when we are out of the woods of the pandemic for the feeling of Nostalgia. Although currently I am not sure if I'd want to do this again just because of it being on the flip side of currently living with this project... currently experiencing it, as it is beginning to take its toll on me a bit. As they say a project is never a finished project so if I was to do this project again or add to this project, I would complete the timeline fully from January- October. I would also clean up my animation work more or create another animation and I would also try and use spell check more for my written work. I would also add more experimentation that isn't all digital art just to show i'm using various mediums and exploring more techniques and processes also and I would probably create a few more posters based on Makaton and a couple more series of posters on the frontline workers.
