Makaton Posters

Posters in Makaton

The idea behind this concept of posters is to create designs in Makaton, for those who doesn't know what Makaton is it's a form of sign language for those with hard of hearing, deaf or those who have speech and language disorders or any kind of learning difficulty where understanding verbal communication challenging.

I chose to design some poster designs in Makaton because I learnt some of the sign language in my Primary School and I learnt the Alphabet in Makaton and how to count and how to say good morning and good afternoon etc. Seeing as this pandemic is a globalised issue I did a PDF booklet on words stay home, stay safe and save lives in different languages across the world but seeing as sign language and Makaton is another language I wanted to try doing a couple of designs based on that so those who struggle with communication and have learnt sign language will understand some of the text. I only designed 2 poster concepts sadly, signing the word COVID 19 and Corona virus in Letters of the alphabet so they can understand and comprehend a big pandemic, and I haven't seen many poster designs on the websites I have researched being in sign language. If this pandemic is as serous as its said to be and you're supposed to communicate a current affair it does make sense to design for those who struggle verbally so they can understand as well.

Sadly I didn't design many variations for this design concept, partly for it being time consuming and it being quite complex, but now I think about it I wish I designed a couple posters saying Wash hands, stay home, stay safe and save lives in Makaton so they can understand the basic rules for COVID 19.

Before you look at my designs here's a treat/horror show for you:

Alphabet in Makaton

Here are my design concepts below:

Makaton for COVID 19 in Characters (Lettering)

Experimental variation

COVID 19: Sign language!

Corona Virus: Sign Language!

Makaton for Corona Virus in Characters (Lettering)

This was an interesting design concept too, not only because of it being just visual, but I found it a unique form of visual communication and its almost like another form of  hieroglyphics  as the characters for hieroglyphics was also in Symbols.
