Covid 19 Brainstorm Posters
This design concept is one I have wanted to create for ages which is to create a typographic poster based on a big topic and in today’s terms of events this topic is of course the one and only! The wonderful wizard of COVID 19! Yes COVID 19! This design concept was actually inspired by an idea my tutor Paul help me come up with when we had the most recent zoom call where he suggested I try this idea after he looked through my dinner project and liked my work from the second pdf sample book I created which one we solely based on typography as he liked how I was experimenting with the text, with the colour, shape and font and said I could kick this up a notch and this is what I did in this series of posters. Where you will see how I have taken on feedback and try my best to respond as coherently as I possibly can. Here is my design concept and experiments, enjoy having a flick through as I have enjoyed creating this serise as it is something I have wanted to create for AGES! I can’t tell you I am so glad Paul suggested this design concept to me! Hallelujah!
The typeface I used on these designs is called Bebas Grotesque Sans Condensed- all inspired by the works of Alan Kitchen! This series is all inspired by the works of Alan Kitchen's Typographic work you'll come across when looking at my artist research.
Here is my series of posters:

This was my first design I created with this concept, I showed a couple of peers this design and their feedback was interesting. The feedback was the following;
"These are really good" and " It's quite good as well like you put your name in middle and words going around it describing yourself" -Friend and Peer outside UCA: Alfie
"Looks like a poster for a nightclub, Would be a good idea actually look like a poster for a rave but be like stay in ya dickheads" As well as saying "ya spelt quarantine wrong tho" - Friend & Peer from UCA: Dom.
"Good work" -Friend & Peer from UCA: Jade
This feedback was good to receive because it was good to know what people thought of this design and were all good and helpful feedback to help me progress as a designer. I liked what Alfie said about the idea of him liking the way I interpreted COVID 19 and I was glad that Dom corrected my spelling for quite frankly an important key word for COVID 19 be shameful to spell quarantine wrong wouldn't it after having 6/7 months of spelling the word.
Green!
Auto Corrected Version!
Quarantine is now spelt correctly!
Blue daba dee daba da!
This experiment came about because of some feedback and a suggestion I also had some more feedback from Dom, saying about maybe experimenting with other colours relating to COVID 19 and he suggested Blue for the NHS. Interestingly I thought that was a brilliant idea but turns out the blue wasn't as effective for this design concept and I had preference for the design with the green, because the green gives it a more germaphobic aesthetic which is what I was after because COVID 19 is basically a virus spread by Germs! Seeing as the germ splats are usually green I think it worked better with the green aesthetic also as apposed to the blue, but was still worth the experiment because some experiments are successful some aren't... just like a science lesson. But the point is you never know till you try, so I thought why not.
Rainbow Variation
This variation here I chose to experiment with colour again another idea based on feedback from Dom, where I could try experimenting ideas using multi colour, just to see what it looks like- the reason I went along with it is because if you remember in lockdown in the beginning we did the claps for the NHS every Thursday for 10 weeks we also had a phase of drawing rainbows and putting them up on the windows in our homes and painting them on rocks to show there is light at the end of the tunnel and to spread positivity in a bad situation.
With these designs below, you'll come to find I started to add a background to these designs using a wall pattern to see what it would look like with the text, to see how the dynamic changes basically, just to experiment and see what happens basically.
Wall Background, I experimented on Photoshop on colour and blend modes
Brick background- experimented on Photoshop on colour and blend modes
Experimented on colour and on the blend mode on Photoshop, inspired by work I created in my sample; book to see what happens.
Moving onto another design concept basically the same idea as the previous designs and the same experiments accept for instead of the negativity of COVID 19 I tried my best to create one of these with a positive outlook too to try and overtake the negativity and to shed some light to the situation.

Positives of COVID 19 & life on the Lockdown
With this design again I really like the colour choice with the greens because I find green as a colour for germs like bogies or just germs and bacteria in general so i figured it would be a good colour for poster designs like this and after designing a poster for the negative wording... turns out it worked in my favour so I thought why not create another design but one more on a positive note, to balance out the negativity a little bit.
Experimentation
Again I wanted to try experimenting with the blues for the same reasons for the greens for this design this is still the design for the more positive notes for lockdown, I wanted to try and show the good things as well as the negativity to try and even it out... more because the NHS is a blue logo and figure it would work- which it does in that purpose and blue is a more positive vibe colour as it means calm and collected kind of emotions but for me this experiment works better in the green variation I think.
Colourful exporation
With this experimental variation, I think it works like a dream, because I wanted to show the positivity and seeing as COVID 19 also had rainbows drawn for NHS for motivation on rocks and pictures on windows in the earlier stages off the lockdown, I wanted to create a rainbow aesthetic for the reasons of conveying positivity and face it rainbows are all about positivity and good vibes to say there's always good at the end of the rainbow in the end of the shitstorm there is always the pot of gold in our case is complete freedom and COVID 19 gone.
