How to design a Poster

How to design a poster

I wanted to do an entry on how to design posters- it doesn't sound all that exciting but, I feel if I have to design a serise of posters- I figured it would be a good idea to look at the fundamentals of a poster, how to attract an audience, what persuasive techniques could I add, what colours to consider- all those questions basically.  I thought it would be good to show my thought process and my ideas generation.  This blog entry may make you feel like you're back in an English class- discussing language techniques and what they mean but to create a psoter- I think these techniques will be good to help with my research.

Here is what I found on a google search:-

How To Design a Poster From Scratch
  1. Identify the goal of your poster.
  2. Consider your target audience.
  3. Decide where you want to share your poster.
  4. Select a pre-made poster template.
  5. Pick a relevant or branded color scheme.
  6. Include a clear call to action.
  7. Use varied fonts to create visual hierarchy.

I got persuaded to do this brainstorm.
Can't say no to Snappy the Croc!

As I mentioned before about the importance to brainstorming and showing your thought process- as an art student I also felt there was some importance to search for techinques one could include in posters- for myself and those who may want to design a poster and unsure what you could put into it. It would help me massively when it comes to the planning and coming up with ideas for designs.

I also forgot to mention the Question words:
Who?
What?
When?
Where?
Why?
How?

How could I possibly forget about these words?
I forgot to mention these words- they can help create a poster- as when I create a poster I feel the need to find a good question- so I can back it up with an answer or maybe the same for finding appropriate rhetorical questions for a poster. Along with the idea of thinking and considering the needs of my audience and viewers. which would be Who?  Often on posters to advertise, you may have to use these question words if its a poster for an event- could be a poster for a party or advertising the next chicken burger at mc Donalds- you may have to consider using those words too.

I have also taken the liberty to take a brief look at BBC bitesize to help me find some persuasive techniques as it can be a very good site to find things like that out- to help you jog your memory as it helped me. one telling you about persuasive techniques and the other showing techniques to persuade your reader- something that is important to graphic design and the rules of advertisement UNDERSTAND your audience and know your target audience basically.

Ignore the fact it says revision on the top left... I thought this was good as it shows examples of the persuasive techniques put into sentences which will help me when im creating my posters.
