David Shrigley

David Shrigley

This artist was recommended to me through Paul at the very beginning of the summer project, because I created a piece of Motion Graphics (A Greyscale Gif) I created this using just Line drawing and my work reminded him of David Shrigley's work. As well as the fact his work is very playful and quite lounge and cheek and this is something I wanted to try and achieve in my work as well. I had a look at his work and I can see why Paul recommended him to me and I also found this guy inspiring to look for instance, his words on his interview about being a successful artist.

Here are some examples of his work below:

David Shrigley's work

This piece is a classic example of David Shrigley's work, which had inspired me, where he works in greyscale and shows a bit of the the tongue in cheek and humour into his work which is something I want to try and add into my work seeing as this topic of art is to do with David and it's quite depressing and you know quite morbid I wanted to add a bit of humour into my work and looking at David Shrigley's work has inspired me more to do so.

My B/W Animation Inspired by David Shrigley
(Based apon my views on COVID 19)

This video was a summary video/animation based on my views on COVID 19 on the beginning of Lockdown when everyone was trapped in their homes stuck in isolation for god knows how long it was.  Hope you enjoyed my interpretation on COVID 19 in the aesthetics of David Shrigley

"I actually enjoyed putting this video together because I learnt a new program doing so I learnt how to use the basics on the Adobe Animate 2020 to experiment with the Adobe suite seeing as I have access to it and it was interesting to discover and I liked the idea of working in just greyscale as it was different and I like the gray scale Aesthetic as well as expressing my work with colour it was just nice to create work that we have this unique, my animation is very much in the same aesthetic is David Shrigley and I enjoyed working in the similar style as a successful and well known artist" ~Saff

Here is an interview I found from David Shrigley: giving artists advice about how to be successful. https://www.youtube.com/watchv=CMuVNQZdigI&list=FL1z1JJsLcIbkrZztY7A7FHg&index=154

"Try and think about the project rather than the finished artwork, so set yourself a project-- and focus on that" ~ David Shrigley

"Don't think about the finished artwork,  the artwork is the residue of the process of a project rather than something you see." ~ David Shrigley

I found this video very helpful for myself and future artists/designers as it makes you think and some of what he says is very true I like how he thinks the artwork is the residue of the process. His words were very inspirational and is something I will learn from and be sure to watch back on.
