Soap Carving
Today I decided to create soap carving! Based on COVID 19 to they something different and to experiment as well as creating art on anything that isn't paper or computerised and to try something different. I have carved soap before a few years ago for work for Secondary school and looking back at Work by Jessica Walsh who is a graphic designer I have done some research on and some of her work- especially her recent work is featuring soap with lettering in her work I wanted to create something similar but actually carving the lettering onto the soap- it was honestly like cutting/carving Lino accept it being soap! Why soap? I used soap because one of the reasons that COVID 19 has been spreading is because of touch and people's germs and they have urged people to wash their hands more so carving the soap saying Wash hands I thought was a perfect idea. This isn't exactly a poster design per say but it was an experiment that I thought worked Very well with this topic for this project and was fun to do. As well as this design concept making me think more out the box, more logical thinking but it also enabled me to use another sector in the art industry being Photography which is also a medium I love exploring in my work- so for me this experiment was an exciting one for me.
Here is my Photos of my Soap Carvings:
I took these photos on My EOS 1300D Canon Camera, using my Soap Carving, a sink and tap- with running water with some of the photographs with myself showing a few shots with my hand in the water- promoting hand washing to prevent the spread of COVID 19! This These photographs are all taken with slightly different perspectives and angles, some with the tap on some with the tap off, the soap being in varied positions and some shots will feature my hand some doesn't feature my hand in the photos, prepare to be amazed.

Jessica Walsh's Soap art on Instagram
This was the piece designed by Jessica Walsh
Jessica Walsh's Art
This is the piece that Inspired me to create design a concepts like this. It also inspired me to carve a soap to create art. I edited one of my photographs from this series above in a similar aesthetic to Jessica Walsh’s art.
Photo edited art inspired by Jessica Walsh
I created this piece by using the Hue saturation setting on Adobe Photoshop to experiment and to see if I can create art in a similar aesthetic to Jessica Walsh’s artwork using the purple hue saturations.
Stay Safe
These two soap carvings Stay Safe and Stay Sane photos are inspired By Jessica Walsh's design concepts and I created these carvings on the same bar of soap so you read it as stay safe and flip the soap over and you get the stay sane.
Here is a clip below demonstrating how I carved the soap but this time carving the word COVID.

Enjoy watching my discoveries.
